Review by Tim Bourke: This was one of four volumes written to be used in concert with the authors' "Bridge Teachers Manual". While they are similarly structured to the authors' four volume "The Bridge Book" series, they are briefer because they are student texts. At the time of publication the material in all books was thought to be of a high standard. However, "The Bridge World" reviewer's opinion at the time ("We are fully aware that our preference for organisation of beginners' books - a strong emphasis on declarer play from which, we believe, an understanding of bidding and defensive play follows more readily - is unpopular") seems closer to a more modern appraisal of the authors' 12 volumes of material for newcomers.
