Review by Tim Bourke: This was an attempt to improve the game of the social player. It had a somewhat patronising in tone. There are many full deals in both the 90 page section on bidding and the 82 page one covering play and defence. The latter division is somewhat misleading as some deals are actually about bidding. In the second edition at least, after a chapter on American Contract Bridge, comes a section with 50 deals from actual play that may interest today's readers. Finally the book concludes with a reprint of the Laws and an Index.
