Review by Tim Bourke: This was the first book in English on the now obsolete Vienna system. The hallmarks of the system are strong twos, an artificial forcing opening of 1NT (about 17+ points in modern terms), the essentially 5-card diamond, heart and spade openings, the forcing 1C for hands not suitable other openings. The modern reader will find the 7-5-3-1 count awkward but the plentiful examples in the text do aid the reading. Worthwhile as it has influenced a significant number of system developers.
