When your opponents open one notrump you are often faced with a bidding problem. Opposite a strong notrump, the opponents usually have the balance of the power but versus a weak notrump, you will be forced to make your first bid at the two-level.
The convention called Multi-Landy ( or Woolsey) is essentially the collection of four conventions:
- Landy. 2??? to show both majors.
- Multi. 2??? shows a 6-card or longer major.
- Cappelletti. 2??? or 2??? shows a 5-card major and a 4-card minor.
- the Woolsey Double. Shows either a 6-card minor or a 5-card minor with a 4-card major or a strong hand.
Multi-Landy unifies these convention and has three main advantages.
- All four bids are used against strong or weak notrump HCP ranges.
- The bids show all hand types to be shown: a long major, majors, major-minor 2-suiters with defined length, a long minor and strong hands.
- Advancer has a set of structured responses for all types of auctions.
