The modern reader may feel that the introductory chapters lack structure. This may be so but the heart of book is the illustrative hands, organised in groups by play type. A complete diagram with the play to each trick is given on the right-hand page with comments on the left. These are the strength of the work and do their job even when an alternate line by declarer or defender would spoil the point (eg the HQ return on hand 7) or the that defensive hand problems have the dealer wrongly labelled. Any modern teacher looking for "new" hands for lessons might find the book useful. The following appears under the title "One hundred hands illustrated and analyzed, the first seventy-two hands explaing the play of declarant, and the balance of twenty-eight, the play of opponents of declarant, besides a discussion of certain features of auction bidding and conventions"
