Review by Tim Bourke: A classic that was the first book on play to assume that the reader had some basic knowledge of playing a bridge hand. The only false note is the section on the discredited "theory of symmetry", which rightly has been excised from later editions. The work is typical of Reese; miserly economy with the words used to describe superb hands. Also, the fourth edition replaced the 'x''s in the original hand diagrams with a valid pip.
