Review by Tim Bourke: This presents some details of a now obsolete system. It is not easy reading as it leaves much unsaid, and the method now looks unplayable unless there was some "Old Black Magic" at the table. Nonetheless, it has the reputation of being an influential book. This was primarily because of Roth was acknowledged as one of the top U.S. players and, rather oddly, as a leading bidding theorist. The 1989 reprint adds a foreword by Matthew Granovetter and an appendix on "Modern Roth". Also see "The Roth-Stone System".
