The purpose of this book is twofold: firstly it will enable you to improve your card-play and hlpe you make more tricks and more contracts. The text discusses how you should play some specific holdings (card combinations) but more importantly, it will assist in the development of patterns of bridge problem-solving that will apply not only to one suit but to declarer-play and defense in general. The second purpose of the book is to share with the reader the beauties and fascinating variations of bridge in a quiet and restricted setting, away from any external distractions. In particular, you will see how suit combinations can often demonstrate how small changes can have large impacts. The book consists of a tutorial (adapted from parts of the highly acclaimed Expert Bridge Simplified, a text that provides ways to avoid complex calculations) and a catalogue of examples based on a long-running Fred Gitelman column on suit combinations in The Bridge World magazine.
